Visits & Pilgrimages
We are pleased to welcome visitors to the Shrine at Chideock and are happy to discuss activity packs etc. for school visits.
The following is a suggested programme for Pilgrimages. A booking request form can be downloaded below to confirm your requirements.

  • A cup of coffee on arrival.
  • A talk of approx 30 minutes about the history of the Church and its Martyrs which will include access to both the wall paintings in the sacristy and the barn loft where Mass was said in secret during penal times. (An Exhibition tracing the history of Chideock Village from Domesday and its connection with the Weld family is displayed in the adjoining Museum)

  • Light Lunch - We can offer a buffet lunch of finger food at £5 per head (max no 40). Alternatively, you are welcome to bring a packed lunch and, in good weather, we can put up tables outside.

  • A ten minute walk from the Church is the unusual Weld Memorial Chapel with its richly decorated walls, which adjoins the Parish Church of St Giles. In a field in the middle of the village is the Martyrs Cross on the site of Chideock Castle.
  • Mass or prayers in the Church, after which a cup of tea will be available.

  • OR Cream Tea at £4 per head.
We do not make any charge for Pilgrimage Visits. However, donations towards the upkeep and restoration of this historic building will be welcomed. Thank you very much.
